Survey results from 17 year-olds in foster care
Thanks to all of the youth who participated in the National Youth in Transition Database survey. Your responses will help improve practices and services to youth in foster care.
Major themes from the report are:
- The majority of youth who have spent time in state licensed care and who participated in the NYTD survey go to school, live in a stable setting, have emotional and financial support, and can receive medical treatment as needed
- Some youth also report serious risk factors such as:
- criminal justice involvement
- behavioral health issues
- housing instability - Females and those who are identified as non Hispanic White tend to have more protective factors while male youth and racial-ethnic minorities have more risk factors
